Sandwich Recipes
As a kid, I almost looked forward to being sick and having to stay home from school.

School couldn't compare with
an entire day of television.

Remember how special you felt when m
om would start setting up that folding tray?

S
he would bring tomato soup, some potatoes chips, maybe a pickle, and a  bologna n cheese
sandwich.
Mustard on the side.

Sometimes, as I s
at on the couch with my TV tray in front of me, the Campbell's soup
commercial would come on.  There I would be swinging my feet and singing,
"Soup and
Sandwich, Soup and Sandwich, nothing goes together like soup and a sandwich.....
."

Remember that jingle?
Funny how a tune stays with you. The writer should be proud.

Below are free sandwich recipes taken from those little tin recipe boxes that use to sit on top
stoves everywhere in the 50's, 60's, and 70's.

Barbecued hamburger from the 1950's
I made this the other day and love it all over again.

Barbecued Spoonbugers
1 1/2  pounds ground beef
1/2 dup chopped onions
1/2 cup diced celery
1/2 green pepper, chopped
1 tablespoon Worcestershire
1 clove garlic, minced (I used 1 heaping teaspoon of minced
garlic from a jar - found in the produce section)
1 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup water
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1 can (3-ounce) tomato paste (I couldn't find a 3-ounce can,
so I use my judgment)
2 tablespoons vinegar
2 teaspoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon dry mustard

Brown ground beef in skillet; discard excess fat.  Put all
ingredients in slow cooker; stir thoroughly.  Cover and cook on
high for 2-3 hours.  Spoon over split, warmed hamburger
buns.  Taste great!  Mom's recipe called for 3-4 hours in the
slow cooker, but that time was too long for mine.  2-3 hours
did great for me.  You could do this all in the skillet. Once you
drained the grease, add the other ingredients, turn the heat
on low and let simmer with lid on until done.
